Cordarone is prescribed for managing life-threatening, recurrent heart rhythm abnormalities in patients who are unable to tolerate or do not respond effectively to alternative treatments. As an antiarrhythmic medication, it functions by regulating the heart's rhythm during episodes of excessive or irregular beating. It is typically administered in circumstances where untreated abnormal heart rhythms could potentially lead to fatality.
Administer Cordarone orally. It is recommended to take it with food, but the most crucial factor is to maintain consistency with meals. If you choose to take Cordarone with food, try to always do so to enhance its absorption. Alternatively, if you prefer taking it on an empty stomach, aim to maintain that choice. Avoid consuming grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while on Cordarone.
Cordarone is most effective when there is a stable concentration of the medication in your system. It is advisable to take Cordarone on a regular schedule around the clock, unless otherwise instructed by your doctor. Aim to take it at the same time each day. If you forget a dose of Cordarone, take it as soon as you remember. If it’s nearly time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and return to your regular dosing routine. Do not double up on doses. If you have questions regarding the use of Cordarone, please consult your healthcare provider.
Although all medications may result in side effects, many individuals experience none or only mild side effects. Contact your doctor if any of the following common side effects persist or become troublesome: unusual skin sensations (numbness, tingling, prickling); a bitter taste in the mouth; blue-green discoloration of the skin (particularly on hands or feet); constipation; reduced sexual desire; dizziness; dry eyes; facial flushing; general discomfort; headaches; involuntary muscle movements; decreased appetite; nausea; impaired coordination; fatigue; sleep difficulties; or vomiting.
Seek immediate medical help if you experience any of these serious side effects: severe allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); chest pain; chills; cold sensations; cough; coughing up blood; dark urine; reduced urination; easy bruising or bleeding; enlarged thyroid gland; eye discomfort; excessive tiredness; fever; irregular heartbeat; loss of coordination; menstrual irregularities; muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness (especially if accompanied by fever or unusual fatigue); anxiety; a persistent sore throat; severe dizziness; intense abdominal pain; shortness of breath; severe skin reactions resembling serious sunburn; slow heart rate; fatigue; excessive sweating; tingling or numbness in hands or feet; uncontrolled shaking or tremor; unexplained weight fluctuations; changes in vision (such as seeing halos, blurred vision, or loss of vision); wheezing; worsening heartbeat irregularities; or yellowing of the skin or eyes.
Store Cordarone at room temperature, between 59 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit (15 and 25 degrees Celsius), in a securely closed container. Keep it away from heat, moisture, and light. Avoid storing in the bathroom. Ensure that Cordarone is kept out of reach of children and pets.
